ABOUT THE ABERDEEN UNIVERSITY LAW SOCIETY

The Aberdeen University Law Society (“AULS”, “we” or “us”) is a student-operated society based at the University of Aberdeen. AULS offers a range of services to both members and non-members, including social and law-related events. This privacy notice sets out how we use any personal information (“information”) that we collect from you.

SCOPE OF OUR PRIVACY NOTICE

Our privacy notice applies to anybody who interacts with AULS in anyway. Examples of interactions with us include visiting our website, emailing us, engaging with us on social media or signing up for one of our events.  Other organisations, like the University of Aberdeen or the Aberdeen University Students’ Association, may also indirectly provide us with your information.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU

We process standard information about you which may, for example, include:

  • your name;

  • contact information, like your email address; 

  • your IP address and device information; and

  • financial details, like bank account details, if you donate to us or purchase something from us.

HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We will process your information only when the law allows us to do so. We will normally rely on our legitimate interests, taking into account your interests, rights and freedoms, to process your information. However, we may also rely on other lawful grounds, including consent, legal obligations, and the protection of our interests to process your information where necessary.

  • optimise our website for your device;

  • provide you with our services;

  • improve our services; and

  • handle claims or exercise our rights.

RETENTION OF YOUR INFORMATION

We keep your information for no longer than is necessary for the purposes it was collected. This time period is calculated on the basis of the purposes for which your information was collected, when you started and stopped using our services, legal requirements, regulators recommendations, and time limits for making claims.

  • request that we correct any information about you if it is incorrect;

  • request that we transfer information about you that we process to a third party, in whole or in part; and

  • object to the processing of your information.
